Access and Information

People contact the YSSN Access Line to access a range of Developmental Services (case management and system coordination, respite services) or a variety of Mental Health supports and services. Access staff will speak with you to discuss criteria used to determine eligibility for services and the moste appropriate supports available to assist with an individual's unique needs.

Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) Central East Region

The DSO has the responsibility for helping adults with developmental disabilities access services and supports in their communities. For those who live in the Central East Region, which includes the Regional Municipality of York, the Regional Municipality of Durham, Simcoe County, Peterborough County, Northumberland County, Haliburton County and the City of Kawartha Lakes, you can contact the DSO Central East Region, which is run by York Support Services Network.

For York Region residents who are experiencing a mental health crisis, and their family or friends, YSSN offers the Community Crisis Response Service, or 1-855-310-COPE (2673). People may speak with a crisis response professional 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.  Crisis workers will provide an immediate response in a variety of critical situations (e.g., depression, loneliness, anxiety or fear, thoughts of suicide, hopelessness, etc.). Depending on the caller's level of need, crisis services may include a telephone response, a mobile response, access to the Mental Health Support Team, a stay in a short-term crisis bed, or assistance through a range of service providers that encompass theCommunity Crisis Response Network.

Case Management

Eligible people and their families are supported by a case manager, who works with them to coordinate formal and informal case management services to meet their needs. Services offered range from an immediate response to health or safety concerns; to an ongoing response for managing complex needs; to a periodic response for helping indivduals maintain their independence.
